Among his books are The Year of Living Biblically, The Know-It-All, and his latest: The Puzzler: One Man’s Quest to Solve the Most Baffling Puzzles Ever, from Crosswords to Jigsaws to the Meaning of Life. Most notably, Jacobs was the answer to ‘1 Down’ in the March 8, 2014, New York Times crossword puzzle.

Greg Pliska
Chief Puzzle Officer / Co-Host

Greg Pliska is Chief Puzzle Officer and co-host of the iHeart Media podcast, THE PUZZLER with AJ Jacobs. Greg’s puzzles have been heard on NPR’s WEEKEND EDITION SUNDAY, and the public radio programs ASK ME ANOTHER and A WAY WITH WORDS. He was the featured puzzlemaker for the New York Times’ 2022 Puzzle Mania contest. Greg creates puzzle hunts for universities, private parties, and Web3 clients, and is a co-creator of Gotham Immersive Labs blockbuster puzzle hunt, Midnight Madness. 

In his other career, Greg has scored films, television shows, musicals, Broadway plays, and opera. His orchestrations can be heard every morning on NPR and every night on CBS Evening News, as well as before every IMAX feature. Greg lives in Manhattan with his co-puzzler, Jessica, and their two offspring puzzlers, Margot and Nicky.
